What We Built
Marathi Typing is a free, browser-based tool for writing Marathi in Devanagari script using an ordinary English keyboard. Type a word the way it sounds — "namaskar", "tumhi kase ahat" — and it appears on screen as नमस्कार, तुम्ही कसे आहात, live as you type. Alongside it, we built a separate typing test that reproduces the fixed-layout Remington and Mangal Inscript keyboards used in real government typing exams, including the MPSC pass/fail scoring rules.
Why We Built It
Most people who want to write Marathi don't have a Devanagari keyboard, and most people preparing for a government typing exam don't have easy access to the exact layout they'll be tested on. Existing options are often locked behind installs, accounts, or ad-heavy pages. We wanted something that works the moment you open it, on any device, for free — no sign-up, no software to install, and no reason to collect your data in the first place.
How It Works
The transliteration engine runs entirely as JavaScript in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server — there's no backend in the loop for the conversion itself, so it keeps working even if your connection drops partway through. You can read more about how the phonetic system works on the typing tool page, or practice for an exam on the Marathi typing test.
